In 2021, Outback Steakhouse’s parent company, Bloomin’ Brands, decided to increase the chain’s menu prices by three percent. Outback Steakhouse’s menu features items like “Gold Coast Coconut Shrimp” and “Aussie Fries,” and most of us are familiar with the Aussie voiceover in commercials, but that doesn’t mean it serves authentic Australian cuisine. In fact, at the time the chain was founded, none of its owners had even been to Australia. Frustrated by the restaurant’s lack of Aussie delicacies, Aussies took to Reddit to share exactly what they’d serve at Outback if they were in charge, including salt-seasoned chicken platters, potato cakes and fairy bread.
While many chain restaurants keep their meat frozen, for the most part, Outback isn’t one of them. Many of Outback’s menu items are prepared fresh, including their famous steaks, but a handful of items may still be frozen. According to an Outback Steakhouse employee on Reddit, fries, fish, lamb, desserts, and some dressings and sauces are frozen until ready to serve.
No big surprise here, but while this famous snack may be delicious, it’s definitely not healthy. This popular Outback Steakhouse appetizer isn’t just fried, it’s packed with calories, salt, and fat. One order has 1,950 calories (close to the average limit of 2,000 calories per day), 155 grams of fat (140% of the recommended daily limit), and 3,840 milligrams of sodium (66% more sodium than you should consume in an entire day). , so it’s a dish you should probably enjoy only in moderation or divide it up among many (many) friends.
