Hy-Vee dietitians host healthy back-to-school events for families throughout August

Throughout the month of August, Hy-Vee dietitians will host a series of programs and workshops focused on helping kids and families prepare for the upcoming school year with healthy recipes.

Kids Free at Hy-Vee (Virtual) Kitchen

Every month, Hy-Vee’s team of dietitians host free virtual cooking classes for aspiring chefs. The goal is to help children feel comfortable and confident in the kitchen and improve their cooking skills through simple, easy-to-follow recipes. Classes are available for the following groups: Little Chefs (Ages 3-7) and Junior Chefs (Ages 8+).

Free visit to the Kids Food Group store (virtual)

Throughout August, families and kids are invited to participate in a free virtual nutrition tour focused on balanced nutrition from the five food groups, interactive food trivia, and fun movement breaks. Participants will also receive shopping tips and product recommendations.

Free back to school party at the store

On Saturday, August 27, select Hy-Vee stores will host the annual Hy-Vee August Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults and children are invited to attend for free to receive recipes for the return to classes and learn more about Hy-Vee. Vee’s health and wellness programs, including healthy habits workshops and frozen meals. See the full list of participating stores.

Frozen food workshops (virtual)

Hy-Vee dietitians will host two types of virtual frozen meal workshops designed to help families save time and money by preparing nutritious meals ahead of time. Participants can sign up and receive a step-by-step guide, recipes and a link to shop at Hy-Vee Aisles Online with all the ingredients already added for easy shopping.

  • On-Demand Mini Freezer Meals Workshop: Back to School Made Easy (Free)

Free mini-classes will be offered with three back-to-school breakfast recipes. To receive the on-demand recording and recipe guide, participants must register online.

Freezer Meal Workshop: Gluten and Dairy Free Recipes ($10)

According to Hy-Vee dieticians, preparing ahead of time is key when managing dietary restrictions. This new frozen food workshop focuses on gluten and dairy free recipes. Participants will learn how to prepare five tasty and affordable meals. Registration is required.

Free Wellness Wednesdays with Hy-Vee Dietitians (virtual)

Free Wellness Wednesday classes will be offered each week in August from noon to 12:30 p.m. Each class will also include a demonstration of a simple and delicious recipe. Registration is required.
