Las Vegas event space Notoriety Live has decided to cancel a magic show that includes animals exploited for entertainment after receiving hundreds of letters asking it not to.

The downtown Las Vegas venue was interested in having magician Dirk Arthur and his big cats perform at one of their theaters on Fremont Street. Magician Dirk Arthur has performed with his big cats in Las Vegas showrooms for decades, and Notoriety Live thought he was a good fit.

“I visited the animals. I saw how they took care of them,” said owner Ken Henderson. “He loves them, and I felt good about the experience, but I always wonder how the rest of the world will take it.”

After an article was published in the Las Vegas Review Journal about the potential couple, Henderson said he received hundreds of letters asking him not to go ahead with the show. She listened to public concerns about the use of animals for entertainment and decided not to pair up.

“Is not something [the animals] I can tell you that I like doing this, and I think that’s where you’re never going to win the argument,” Henderson said. “I hear a different side of it now, and it makes me see the animals on different shows.”

Henderson told FOX5 that he doesn’t think he’ll ever allow any kind of animal to be a part of his place after this experience. He even said that he would love for Arthur to perform, but without the animals.

This just goes to show that letters, calls and anything you can do will help! Not everyone will be as receptive, but we’re so glad Henderson listened to the letters, understood the concern, and canceled the event.
