Meet Lucky, who was rescued from a meat and dairy farm at just 2 years old!

Meet Lucky. He and his brothers were born on a meat farm and when he was only two years old they found him abandoned in a field. He was cold and limp and struggling to survive. Although his brothers did not survive, the rescue from Friendly Fields Farm arrived in time to save Lucky.

“It’s hard to believe how big it’s getting. It seems like only yesterday that we brought it home for the first time. He was so fragile and tiny back then. Now, he’s huge,” the rescue said.

“Lucky has a lot of personality. He is affectionate and funny, he likes to jump and play with Julian and Lily. I am so glad he found his way to us, our sanctuary family would not be the same without him,” the rescue added.

Many people have an idyllic image of happy sheep roaming the green hills, but as in any industry that benefits animals, money always comes before animal welfare. When their wool production begins to decline, most sheep are slaughtered for meat. Many are sent on a long journey on a severely overcrowded multi-tiered ship to countries that have few, if any, animal welfare laws or regulations. These sheep, millions each year, are often slaughtered by having their throats slashed while they are still conscious. While Lucky made it out alive, this is not the case for the others.

Fortunately, there are plenty of cruelty-free fabrics to choose from, including cotton, cotton flannel, polyester fleece, faux shearling, and many others. You can skip the cruelty — and that nasty itchy feeling — by choosing vegan options the next time you’re out shopping.

Thanks to his kind caregivers at Friendly Fields Farm Sanctuary in North Carolina, Lucky is now happy, healthy, and free to live his life! You can keep up with Lucky and the other rescues on Instagram and TikTok!
